Sunset over McPherson’s Ridge in Gettysburg

Posted by in Gettysburg, HDR Photography | July 26, 2010

Here is another photo from the other day in Gettysburg. My friend Jason and I spent the afternoon there taking photos and such.

This photograph of Gettysburg is off McPherson’s Ridge. Standing in the low ground between McPherson’s Ridge and Seminary Ridge looking east always makes for a great sunset photograph. You can see the monuments to General Reynolds and Buford a long with the monument to Hall’s Battery.

Sunset shots like this can always be a little tricky. Many times you will end up with the silhouettes and little detail in the foreground but the sunset will be in its full glory. This is one way in which HDR photography excels. The bracketed exposures allow you to capture all of the foreground detail as well. As fas as HDR goes, this photograph leans towards a more realistic view. More and more I find myself trying to use HDR as a way to capture what my eye sees, not some artsy surreal effect. I mean, I used to let my HDR’s drift off towards surreal, but I just don’t like it was much anymore. Eh, just me.

This photograph is over on Pictures of Gettysburg too. If you are looking for a cool present for your favorite Civil War buff why not purchase print for them? Okay, shameless sales pitch = done. Haha. You can find this print at:  McPherson’s Ridge Print.
